EPD: Man shot by homeowner after attempted break-in

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - An Evansville man was shot after, police say, he tried to break into a home. The home-owner said the man broke through the back door, and that's when he shot the intruder, but the story doesn't stop there.
The intruder was then run-down by his own get-away car.

Evansville police said it all started at 5:00 Sunday morning when 26-year-old Derek Shaun Clark kicked in the door of Derrick Murray's home on East Riverside Drive. Police said the suspect entered the home and told the victim he was police.
Murray said he could tell from the tone of his voice something wasn't right. "They were talking in street slang, so I ran to my bedroom to get my rifle and as he came in with his hand-gun drawn I, I just fired at him," Murray said.

Suspect claimed to be the police, talk about making a hard decision. I'm glad he trusted his instincts. I hope the suspect recovers so he can be prosecuted

What a world we live in. I don't have a problem with the homeowner protecting himself. However, I have to ask what the fuck is wrong with our society when there are so many armed home break ins? Something is very broken here and we need to figure out why we have so much violence. Think it might be the huge disparity between income and the social classes?

there is "gang culture" that celebrates violence and thuggish behavior? A culture where wearing $500 dollar sneakers and stuffing a Glock into the waistband of sweatpants is behavior even millionaire football players emulate?

Seems to me there are plenty of thugs who are thugs because it is a career choice; they WANT to be thugs. Economic circumstance have squat to do with it. The guy may be miserable, but he ain't Les Miserables! He's not stealing a loaf of bread to feed his kids when, gun in hand, he kicks the door in of some stranger's house!

4. I Agree

with the symptoms, but we need to figure out the cause to treat the problem. I will admit the odds of a certain percentage of any population may be bad for no reason other than their nature but the numbers are increasing. I have guns and believe me if someone kicks in my door they will carry their corpse out of my home. I will not be a victim, but it sure would be easier if we could fix the problem rather than have me kill someone.
