Gun trumps restraining order.
http://www.azfamily.com/news/homepagetopstory/stories/Phoenix-local-news-092808-fatal-shoot-retrain-orde.bf7a220a.html

" PHOENIX - A man is dead after trying to break into a woman's home and she opened fire on him.

According to police the woman had a restraining order against the man although their exact relationship is unclear. "

1. It would be hard to charge the woman...
Restraining orders too often don't restrain. The woman was wise to arm herself, otherwise the result might have been tragic.

Life is hard, especially if you're stupid.

3. It's a shame she was so unempowered as to need a gun to stop a psychopathic man.

4. I know it.
She should have called the police. Or used her fists.

7. Good
Hopefully she is handling the event well, I think that in many cases people only have a serious reaction to being forced to kill someone else because it is sort of ingrained in us that if you aren't a wreck afterwards, you either wanted to do it or you are some sort of sociopath. This guy needed a good dose of lead, because apparently not even being dragged through the legal system was enough of a wake-up call for him. Funny that he would still be alive today if he had just left her alone.

9. Yeah...
I guess what works in Phoenix won't work in Chicago for some reason...

10. Chicago's homicide rate over 15/100k, D.C.'s over 29/100k but Cheyenne's 3.5/100k.
What works in Cheyenne might work in Chicago and D.C.

At least victims would have a fighting chance against violent criminals.

National homicide rate was about 6/100k in 2006.

11. A handgun...
A handgun is a mobile restraining order.

12. Good thought, a handgun is an active way for victims to say NO to violent crime.

13. Odd 1911, do you know who took that picture?
I'd like to know what make/model that pistol is. Her grip is better than many I've seen, but still needs some work (thumbs higher, left hand fingers under the trigger guard and together, shoulders and arms are excellent though).

As for the story, I'm glad that she was able to survive the attack and stories like this remind me of why I support the carrying of arms.

14. Officer's ACP
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 11:17 AM by one-eyed fat man
Colt's short (3-1/2 in barrel) 1911 from around the mid-80's, distinctive recoil spring plug and bushing dead give-away. Uncannily accurate, but the spring plug has a reputation for breaking resulting in a number of after-market replacements.

18. Colt Officer's ACP.
I use one as my primary duty weapon. The recoil spring plug is a known problem and I keep close tabs on mine. Even though the barrel is short, it is quite accurate and the recoil is negligible. It's small size lets me wear a high-riding holster for better retention and comfort. You can shoot full-size GI magazines in it but they are not as reliable as the shorter Officers mags.

15. Her grip looks horrible to me.
It would be a very painful experiance for her to fire that gun the way she is holding it. If you look, she has her thumb from her left hand wrapped behind the slide resting on her right hand. Can you say slide bite! I tell my customers that I see doing that with a handgun, that it's a self correcting problem, as they will probably only do it once, LOL. Other than that, she should keep her fingers of her support hand on the grip, including her index finger. She shouldn't need to use that index finger to help pull the trigger.

17. Yeah, I have a Ruger Service Six .357 and you need to have one hand ...
somewhat under the other for better control when aiming. I assume that applies to auto-loaders, which I rarely use.
