Some information, link on .45 ACP 1911 pistols for any fans here.
I have been shooting handguns for nearly 40 years. I have owned several hundred different handguns over that time, autoloaders and revolvers, even a few black powder revolvers and real antiques.
I enjoyed many of them, but some just stand above the others.
One of my favorites is the old 1911 pistol, the old US military .45 auto.

I own 2 1911's at this time, both made in Manila by a company called Armscor.
(They sellin the US as Rock Island and Charles Daly brands. I have owned both and they are both excellent. Both of mine at this time are Dalys.)
I decided to post this because I just shot one of them at a range safety course last night, and I really enjoyed shooting it.
Here is a link to what I believe is THE best site for information on all aspects if the 1911, and is a great source of information on handguns in general.
Most gun forums tend to be right wing, but this has managed to stay pretty neutral. There is a political forum if you want to venture into it, but It is a bit different from the views expressed here.

Link: http://forum.m1911.org/index.php?

I am a fairly regular poster there, under a different name, and I encourage anyone with an interest in handguns to take a look.

Thanks.

1. I Don't have a 1911 yet
But I do have a CZ 97B. If you ever get a chance to try on some CZs, give em a shot. Also, I just got a CZ 40B. It feels similiar to a 1911, has a near identical grip, but is thicker and only comes in .40 S&W.

Also they cost under $300 new!

2. I've done fluff and buff and trigger jobs on 2 Rock Island 45's
I've put 600 and 750+ rounds through them respectively with NO problems. I picked them up for about 325$ each. Just ran a few mags through them today at the range, and they still fire like a champ

3. Sounds neat!
I need to get some stuff so I can polish up the internals on some of my guns. The CZs kill me because I love them to bits but the triggers have SOOOOOO much creep before they break!

4. 'nother 1911 fan here
My wife and I have a Colt 1991 (New Rollmark) each.

My wife turned out to be a natural shooter with hers. Me on the other hand, I need more practice, but I love her (my wife) just the same.

They're exactly like this one:

It's been along time since I last visited that forum (good one).

I use to visit this other one too:

Brian Enos Forums' aren't too shabby either:

5. I have shot
some 1911's but don't own any. Their capacity is a big let down. FNP45 with 15+1!!!! Wow. Although STI DOES have high capacity 1911's....EXPENSIVE......but still.....

7. Hi-cap 1911 in .45 ACP
Except for say the high power, and the CZ 75, hi cap pistols tend to be too large for me.

If I would go for a high cap 1911 in .45 ACP it would probably be one of the earlier Para Ordenance's in all steel and single action.

But even those frames are too large for my hands.

I personally have no problem with 7+1 or 8+1 magazines in a 1911.

If it turns out I needed more than that, well maybe I should have brought a rifle to the party.

10. Tight
Those seem to have a pretty tight frame to slide fit.

How's reliability?

14. Les Baer considers all their guns to be custom made
All the major components are hand fitted to each particular gun. They are even numbered to avoid mixing them up with the gun next to them. It took about 1000 rounds to loosen mine up. Reliability? You aim the gun, pull the trigger and it shoots. So far it has worked like that about 3000 times. Les guarantees 3" groups at 50 yards, not that I can shoot that well. For a few $$$ more they will guarantee 1 1/2" groups. I love this gun!

11. The 1911 is a great shooter
and I used to carry one. But when I got into reality based training I found I had trouble getting the safety off before the bad guy got on top of me. I have seen the same thing from other 1911 fans in combat classes. I've gone to an XD. But the trigger will never be near as good as a 1911.
I just can't shoot striker fired pistols as well as a 1911, those things were born to shoot well.

13. The 1911 is a favorite of anyone who takes time to shoot one,
Even people who don't shoot like shooting a well balanced, full sized 1911. I have posted this animation from STI before. It shows exactly how a modern 1911 A1 functions. Don't forget to play with the buttons on the lower left.
