This is Obama’s opportunity to squelch criticism of those who claim he is a gun-grabber.

IMO the party should adopt a simple plank "We will protect Americans' Second Amendment right to own firearms” and get rid of the additional qualifying phrases, see below.

"We will protect Americans' Second Amendment right to own firearms, and we will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists by fighting gun crime, reauthorizing the assault weapons ban, and closing the gun show loophole, as President Bush proposed and failed to do." Obama could then promise voters “I will veto every bill that comes to me that infringes upon the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for self-defense and other lawful purposes.”

What I fear is a platform statement that is vague and ambiguous followed by silence from Obama. That leaves him open to attack on the RKBA issue.
