Boy, 5, Shoots Little Sister After Fight
Boy, 5, Shoots Little Sister After Fight

May 9, 2008, 8:53 PM PDT

Boy, 5, Shoots Little Sister After Fight Indianapolis -- A man whose 5-year-old son accidentally shot and killed his sister was arrested at the cemetery before the little girl's burial.

James Michael Booher faces charges that include child neglect for allegedly leaving a semiautomatic handgun where his son could find it.

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi says 26-year-old Booher should have been more careful in keeping the gun away from his son.

<snip>..

Booher was being held in the Marion County Jail on three counts of felony neglect. He faces up to 56 years in prison.

1. Yes he should have been arrested
but for cripes sake, they should have at least let him attend the funeral.

6. Under strict police presence, I agree with you. Then he could have that memory burned into his skull
while he dwells on his stupidity in his cell at the state penitentiary.

2. The father should be rotting in prison. Unbelievable having an unsecured firearm with kids.
Absolutely disgusting. If he ever got out of prison, he should NEVER be allowed to own a firearm again.

4. As long as he gets nailed with a felony charge, he won't be able to own any gun again, thankfully...
much less have a bullet in his possession, or it's off to prison with him again.

5. Every gun owner needs to be responsible for keeping their guns locked up so children and others who.
do not have any business using a gun cannot get their hands on them.

7. Very vague story, more info is out there
Looks like the father was considered a flight risk.

"We asked the police to outright arrest him," said Matthew Symons, Prosecutor Carl Brizzi?s spokesman. "We had reason to believe he posed a flight risk."

-snip-

The arrest, at Washington Park East Cemetery after Makayla?s funeral, but before her burial, left her mother angry.

This is unacceptable, all the way around, said Michelle Vensko, 34. She said she missed the burial also because Booher's arrest prompted her to collapse, her head striking her daughter's coffin.

----------------------------------------------------

Sure is sad, seeing as there was a previous incident concerning the gun, sure do wish the father had done his duty as one and gotten his house in order.

8. Nothing vague about it. Just like many gun-owners, he didn't keep his gun locked up.
So now a poor little girl is dead.

9. Evidenced by ??????
Many gun owners leave their guns for children to access them? You surely have some proof of that.
