Colorado Gun Shop Arms NJ Criminals
Here's why Federal gun control laws are such a good idea....

"Christie said that for the third straight year, the murder rate in Newark has risen as has the number of handguns recovered.

"The rise in violence and unlawful gun possession corresponds directly to a substantial increase in documented gang activity beginning in 1999," he said.
The indictment released in Newark yesterday charges that Roy Campbell legally bought 86 handguns in Colorado in early 2000 and returned to sell them on the streets of New Jersey, where authorities said many ended up in the hands of gang members. Almost all of the weapons were purchased at an Aurora, Colo., pawn shop renowned for selling "Saturday night specials" or "junk guns" in large quantities, officials said.
Campbell, who did not have the federal firearms license needed to sell the weapons, reaped a profit of $100 or more for every gun, authorities said.
The grand jury charged Campbell, 39, with a single count of illegal firearm sales. He faces a maximum of five years in prison. He was free yesterday on $100,000 bail. "

1. He Should Have Been Charged With 86 Counts
One for each gun. With a mazimum of 430 years in prison (86 guns x 5 years each).

3. This should have bigger headlines.
Scream it across newspapers everywhere; if you're a gun runner you're going to get caught and sent to jail. Make people realize it isn't worth a profit of $100 a gun to go to jail. And make the penalty bigger.

But if you sell to gun-runners, like this thug in Colorado does...expect the industry to spend millions on propaganda for the RKBA crowd to parrot, trying to protect your right to do so.

...my rights. And I expect law enforcement to do their job. Stopping gun runners isn't that hard. ATF can follow a gun back to it's sale, if they find out a person has sold two guns that were used in crime, invertigate and prosecute.

(edited because I spelled rights wrong)

18. Accept personal Responsiblity
come on, you know the gun nuts that want to ban all firearms (and now pelet guns apparently) will always blame the gun industry or the store, never the person or persons that broke the law.

Of course noting the fact that this POS broke numerous laws (federal and State) does no good. You know that these laws prevent this kind of thing.

I am suprised that you are not holding Gateway, Intell or hell Microsoft responsible for us defenders of the Bill of Rights being able to express our views. While you are at it, blame law schools for teaching lawyers (who become judges) the importance of the 2nd ammendment.

The fault of this crime lies squarly with the individual that was buying the guns and re-selling them.

43. Why do you keep dodging the question?
From Section 9239(g), Title 18 of the United States Code:

"Each licensee shall prepare a report of multiple sales or other dispositions whenever the licensee sells or otherwise disposes of, at one time or during any five consecutive business days, two or more pistols, or revolvers, or any combination of pistols and revolvers totalling two or more, to an unlicensed person. The report shall be prepared on a form specified by the Secretary and forwarded to the office specified thereon and to the department of State police or State law enforcement agency of the State or local law enforcement agency of the local jurisdiction in which the sale or other disposition took place, not later than the close of business on the day that the multiple sale or other disposition occurs."

(bold font added for emphasis by Slackmaster)

How could this dealer have gone so long without being investigated by police? This is clearly a failure of LOCAL law enforcement, and your pet pathetic excuse about the BATF having its hands tied by the NRA or the VRWC won't cut it.

27. It already exists
Here's why Federal gun control laws are such a good idea....

ALL the laws that are needed to alert the authorities to the potential of illegal activity in this case already exist.

http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#f5
(F5) As a licensed dealer, must I advise ATF if I sell more than one handgun to an individual?

If you sell more than one handgun to any nonlicensee during a period of 5 consecutive business days, the sale must be reported on ATF Form 3310.4, Report of Multiple Sale or Other Disposition of Pistols and Revolvers, and forwarded to the ATF office specified on the form no later than the close of business on the day the second handgun was sold. A copy of the form must also be sent to the state police or the local law enforcement agency where the sale occurred. A copy must also be kept in the records of the dealer. <18 U. S. C. 923( g)( 3), 27 CFR 178.126a>

The BATF(E) should have received plenty of paperwork on this Campbell guy.
