Philly - Mayor Declares City Violence A Crisis
SNIP

Within the past eight days there have been 21 homicides in Philadelphia, including three in the late-night and early morning hours after the prosecutor made her appeal Monday.

SNIP

Street (mayor of philly) has declared the violence throughout the city a crisis and as a result has ordered the full review of police department policies and has suggested a full moratorium on the issuing of gun permits.

In addition, Street has requested a meeting with Governor Ed Rendell to talk about possible new gun legislation.

yeah, that is just what PA needs...how come the rest of the state isn't experiencing such an upturn in murders like Philly?

SNIP

Abraham would not discuss the case of Felix Summers, a 24-year-old man accused by federal authorities of killing off a string of witnesses who were to testify against him in as many as four murders. Summers, who has not been accused in any of the current cases, was acquitted in two homicide trials and a jury deadlocked in another trial last week. His lawyer says he had nothing to do with the witnesses’ deaths and was being persecuted by overzealous prosecutors.

hmmmm, yeah, I bet he had a CCW so getting rid of gun permits (PA doesn't have gun permits, so I assume they are referring to CCWs) will solve the problem.

Interesting how the police state they know that people know who has committed the murders, yet they won't speak. From that, the mayor sees the solution as more gun control.

1. Street Is A Jackass
Street... has suggested a full moratorium on the issuing of gun permits

Oh, puh-leeze -- the problem is caused by street thugs, not by respectable citizens who jump through the hoops to get "gun permits".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if the Democrats had only had the sense to take the gun-control albatross off their necks, Al Gore would be starting his second term and Dubya would be somewhere on his usual merry-go-round of acquiring a business, running it into the ground, getting bailed out by Poppy's friends, lather-rinse-repeat.

2. It's not really "jumping through hoops" in PA
It was actually rather easy to get my CCW here - $19 fee and a 45-day waiting/background check period. Oh, and I had to provide two personal references, who were asked if there was any good reason I shouldn't be allowed to carry. And yet the streets here (East Bumblefuck aka Altoona) certainly aren't running red with blood, even though I know a good fraction of the populace is packing. It's amusing to go to the mall and see who's carrying heavy; quite a few people here don't quite get the concept of "concealed".

"Why is it that when somebody gets shot, they want to take guns away from the people who didn't do it"?

(For the humor challenged: that was a joke.)

5. I have a PA CCW and I'm not even from there.
I got it through the mail. $20 to the Centre County Sheriff and an application.

7. Really?
My guns must be defective. I've had some of them for over 30 years. I've had a loaded gun in the house since 1983. I've carried a gun since 1995. Never snapped.

There are many tens of millions of gunowners ... only a very few have acted out your incorrect perception.

Take a look at the states with shall issue CCW systems. How many of those people have snapped and gone on your murderous rampage?

You're bringing up the old 'blood in the streets' garbage.
