MURMANSK, May 7 (RIA Novosti, Yekaterina Kozlova) - In summer 2005, the Northern Fleet will participate in joint Navy maneuvers with the Navies of the United States, Great Britain and France, announced commander of the surface ship group of the Northern Fleet Rear Admiral Alexander Litenkov. He spoke with RIA Novosti correspondent during the welcome ceremony on the occasion of the visit of Britain's guided missile frigate Southerland to the Russian port of Murmansk to participate in celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory.

"The Northern Fleet will be represented by large anti-submarine ship Admiral Levchenko," Litenkov said.

The maneuvers will be conducted in the Bay of Biscay in June-July 2005 with the goal of developing coordination in fighting against terrorism, piracy and bandit actions at sea.

Welcoming the arrival of the British frigate, the representative of the Northern Fleet pointed out that such visits promoted the strengthening of friendship between countries and peoples.
