John Bolton's world
The New York Times
Thursday, March 10, 2005

On Monday, President George W. Bush nominated John Bolton, an outspoken critic of multinational institutions and a former protégé of Senator Jesse Helms, to be the representative to the United Nations. We won't make the case that this is a terrible choice at a critical time. We can let Bolton do it for us by examining how things might look if he had his way:

<snip> In an interview in 2000 on National Public Radio, Bolton said, "If I were redoing the Security Council today, I'd have one permanent member because that's the real reflection of the distribution of power in the world."

"And that one member would be, John Bolton?"

"The United States," Bolton replied. <snip>
