Sonia Gandhi declines Indian premiership
Sonia Gandhi has declined to serve as prime minister of India, leaving the question of who will take the post unanswered.

"The post of prime minister has not been my aim," Gandhi told incoming MPs of her Congress party on Tuesday.

"I would follow my inner voice. Today, it tells me that I must humbly decline this post," Gandhi said in parliament.

Supporters immediately interrupted her with shouts of disappointment, briefly stopping her from speaking.

1. Corporate India
Didn't approve, Corporate America didn't approve, and probably someone in-between threatened her life.

2. I retract my statement
I assumed that's why she stepped down, certainly because of the corporate press' account of the situation, and my idiocy in believing without analysis anything they say.

I plan on posting an analysis of the situation momentarily.

3. well, she did cite "security concerns"
which means she got death threats. first, india does have a history of assassinations, including her husband. second, she was born in ITALY. i find it VERY easy to believe that there are insurmountable security problems from the indian equivalent of rednecks.

imagine the "security concerns" for, say, a black and/or jewish u.s. president.
