Dead cop had info on corruption - family - SA

A police officer found shot dead in a Mount Edgecombe cane field on Thursday had enough information on corruption at the Phoenix Police Station to have the station closed down, his family has claimed.

Rajen Govender, 34, a detective at the police station, was found with a single bullet wound to the head after a crop-dusting pilot spotted his state vehicle from the air. The car's doors were all open and Govender's watch, cellphone and shoes were missing. His 9mm service pistol was found close to his body.

His office at the police station had been ransacked after he had gone missing after going off duty on Tuesday night. A search was launched after Govender failed to attend a meeting on Wednesday and a colleague noticed the condition of his office.
