Plan to reform Arab League to be unveiled soon

Egyptian leader says his country, Saudi, Syria have plan to reform Arab League, blasts US initiative to reform Mideast.

CAIRO - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said his country, Saudi Arabia and Syria will unveil a joint plan to reform the Arab League next month, after rejecting Washington's plan to spread US-style democracy in the region, Egypt's MENA news agency reported Wednesday.

Their plan would aim to modify the workings of the 22-member Arab grouping to make it an "efficient institution," Mubarak was quoted as telling MENA during a brief visit to Riyadh on Tuesday.

He said the plan would be unveiled at an Arab foreign ministers meetings set for the Egyptian capital at the start of the month.
