Taiwan people urged to rally for democracy
Successfully creating a 600-kilometer human chain in the Baltic States in 1989 helped Estonians gain the confidence needed to realize their dreams for independence and could have the same impact in Taiwan, an Estonian freelance reporter said yesterday in Taipei.

"Without the move, Estonia could be another satellite state, or ally of Russia, just like Georgia or Moldova nowadays,"said Mart Laanemets, a writer who has been in Taiwan for over a year.

Unlike Georgia and Moldova, which were part of the Soviet Union from its inception, Estonia was annexed by Russia in 1940 following the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact inked by Stalin and Hitler on August 23, 1939, Laanemets said after an international media press conference for the 2-28 "Hand-in-Hand" rally yesterday afternoon.

1. Not the same...
Estonia never fought a civil war against Russia. Estonia isn't Russian. But Taiwan is Chinese. The Chinese Nationalists took as much cultural patrimony as they could when they escaped to Formosa. Remember the Chinese Civil War of 1933 to 1949 never really ended. Communist China hates them like we hate Saddam. Its not rational, but its visceral.

Mainland China still is a totalitarian regime with nuclear weapons. It is completely uncompromising on the Taiwan issue, and the US should take note of what 1 Billion people think. China will probably invade Taiwan someday, and I hope that that does not cause nuclear war.

Mainland China totally sucks and the US should stand up to them by flexing our economic muscle. That is the only thing that actually gets their attention. What they are doing in Hong Kong is despicable. What they are doing in Tibet blows.

All that said, I of course like Chinese people. They are wonderful.

"I like Chinese,
I like Chinese,
There's 900 million of them in the world today...
You'd better learn to like them, that's what I say..."

2. I wonder why Formosa doesn't extradite the Fascist Chinese back to China?
Why does Formosa/Taiwan have to get involved. Send the KMT back to China and let the legas system take care of them there.
