IOC executive is indicted for bribery, embezzling - SK
Korea's most prominent Olympic sports official, Kim Un-yong, was indicted yesterday on charges of embezzlement and receiving bribes amounting to more than 4.5 billion won ($3.8 million). Mr. Kim was president of the World Taekwondo Federation and a member of the National Assembly until he resigned those posts under fire in January.
The Seoul District Prosecutor's Office said Mr. Kim, who has also been suspended as a vice president of the International Olympic Committee, stole 3.84 billion won from two taekwondo groups, one national and one international, that he headed. Both groups are headquartered in Seoul.
Prosecutors said he he had diverted the funds to personal uses over the past three years. The indictment came two weeks after Mr. Kim, 72, left the hospital and was jailed following a two-month investigation.
