Cabinet warns PRC to back off meddling in poll
The Democratic Progressive Party - led Cabinet yesterday told authorities of the rival People's Republic of China to cease interference in Taiwan's upcoming presidential election and asked Beijing to extradite several leading economic fugitives now living in China.

Speaking to reporters after the scheduled weekly meeting of the Executive Yuan, Cabinet Spokesman Lin Chia-lung (???) pointed to the establishment last Saturday of a Shanghai campaign office for the "pan-blue" presidential and vice presidential ticket of Kuomintang Chairman Lien Chan (??) and People First Party Chairman James Soong (???) as a sign of Beijing's tacit interference in the election.

Spokespersons for DPP campaign for the re-election of President Chen Shui-bian (???) and Vice President Annette (???) noted that such activities were illegal under PRC law but that PRC authorities had uncharacteristically not taken swift action to curtail the political move.
