Russian military chief warns U.S. against striking Iran
Russia's top military warned the United States on Wednesday against using force against Iran over its controversial nuclear ambitions saying the consequences would be "dreadful."

"The consequences, I believe, would be dreadful for Iran, as well as Russia, the entire Asia-Pacific community," Gen. Nikolai Makarov, chief of Russia's General Staff, said.

The statement came as world powers are mounting pressure on Tehran to accept a UN-drafted compromise to enrich uranium for Iran's research reactor abroad or face a new set of tougher sanctions.

The White House repeatedly said it did not rule out any options, including a military operation, in dealing with Iran's nuclear aspirations.

Makarov suggested Washington might turn its military attention on Iran once its operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have been completed.

1. If President Obama feels that a joint US-Israel bombing raid on Iran
is necessary to rid them of nuclear capability, I will support him. He gets intel that none of us could ever imagine.

6. Military operation is not panacea.
Don't you understand, that military operation can cause a new coil of violence to a life? If the United States begins to bomb Iran, Iran begins to undertake more likely reciprocal actions in the form of terrorist attacks.

2. Russia is only posturing...
They just don't want the embarrassment of the world stage when it shows that their weapon systems don't measure up to the west. That's why they just postponed sending the Iranians their brand new, out of the box, interceptor missiles because of "technical difficulties". Bad for business, they make an awful lot of money exporting military technology. At the same time, with the religious troubles they have they don't want a nuclear presence in a neighboring theocracy.
