Explosive package discovered at women's clinic in Austin, Texas
Police: Suspicious package found at clinic was explosive

A suspicious package discovered in a parking lot Wednesday afternoon caused police to evacuate the area along the southbound I-35 frontage road just south of downtown Austin.

The Austin Police Department confirmed they evacuated the area between Woodland and Oltorf streets, including several nearby buildings, the Austin Women's Health Center and an apartment complex.

Police used a robotic device to examine it. An APD spokesperson said the package was an explosive device and would have caused "serious bodily injury or death had it functioned."

A criminal investigation is being conducted by local and federal authorities. A security camera overlooks the parking lot of the Austin Women's Health Center and authorities are reviewing the tapes.

1. Oh no
I hope this doesn't herald another series of clinic bombings. Glad they found this one before it went off and harmed anyone.

3. Funny, out of four "suspicious package" stories
The only one that was a danger is at a womens health care center. We'd be much better off watching our own religiously insane and not playing in other peoples sandboxes.

4. We need look no further than our own backyard to find dangerous zealots
However, it's common to want to point the finger of blame elsewhere rather than clean up your own mess.
