Economists worry as Thais go on credit-card spending spree
Thais are on a shopping binge in the country's ever-expanding malls, and ringing up debt from credit cards and personal loans, prompting economists to warn a hangover may be around the corner when the bills arrive.
Take Sudthana Puntheeranurak, a Bangkok-based commercial lawyer. She has nine credit cards -- including two each from two banks -- but only uses two or three.

"I plan to cancel some of them, maybe four or five, because it's too much," she said, adding she got them to help her friend, who works in a bank, get a commission.

1. No, we're the only country allowed to pound our credit into the ground
without the prospect of one day making good on our debt. Consumer credit debt plus the trade gap plus the deficit makes Thailand look like a rank amateur.
