Greenpeace posts leaked US objection to G8 climate statement

AMSTERDAM (AFP) - Greenpeace on Saturday published a leaked
document showing the United States has raised serious new
objections to a proposed global warming declaration for next
month's Group of Eight summit.

In the document, US officials representing the administration
of President George W. Bush reject the declaration prepared by
Germany.

"The United States still has serious, fundamental concerns about
this draft statement," the document states.

"The treatment of climate change runs counter to our overall
position and crosses multiple 'red lines' in terms of what we
simply cannot agree to," according to the undated document
released by Greenpeace.
