WASHINGTON -- Honda Motor Co. unveiled its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle here Thursday, saying it would begin producing a small number of vehicles next year for use in Japan and the United States.

The new Honda FCX is sportier and sleeker than the current version, with a top speed of 100 mph. It has a longer range -- 270 miles, up from 210 -- and a fuel cell power system that's 400 pounds lighter.

"We're calling this the 'FCX Concept' but I can assure you it is not just some far out, pie-in-the-sky exercise in what may or may not come to fruition some day in the distant future," said Steve Ellis, Honda's manager of fuel cell vehicle marketing.

Ellis said the vehicle is an important tool in reaching out to green-conscious customers. "It will be positioned as the ultimate environmental badge of honor for our customers."

3. My husband is doing research
on making a devise that will allow the car to make hydrogen as it goes down the highway. He's been a mechanic for over 40 years, and the plans he got he believes to be doable. Right now, he's deciding which old car to use in the transformation. I'll keep you all posted.

4. As a fleet vehicle with limited range needed, it will be a good choice for
city and other local governments, and eventually maybe for general urban use IF they BUILD THE REFUELING STATIONS.

6. Its obvious they plan to dominate the market; putting huge amount of money into car & home energy mo
dule to provide electricity for house, plus heating and hot water, etc. and hydrogen for vehicles.
see the other thread

It looks like they might dominate not only the car market, but also take huge loads off the electrical systems-
since their "home energy modules" can work at the residential level or for malls, apartment buildings

to cost effectively and cleanly provide electricity, plus heating, cooling, hotwater, etc. from the waste heat,
plus providing hydrogen for vehicles.
You can have effeciencies up to over 80% in this way.
