Sea Lampreys Wiping Out Salmon, Trout Populations In Lake Champlain
Government biologists working on Lake Champlain, between New York and Vermont, say they're losing the fight against the sea lamprey, a parasite that targets freshwater salmon and trout. The lamprey population has surged in recent years. Brian Mann reports scientists say the best solution might be to turn the fight over to federal biologists who have had greater success fighting lamprey on the Great Lakes:

2. Hey, wouldn't it just be easier to have the bean-counters and suits
start a marketing campaign promoting "delicious lamprey, fresh from the waters of the Adirondacks" and commerically harvesting them???

Free-market solutions rock!!!!!!

:sarcasm:

4. They wanted Lake Champlain to be considered one of the Great Lakes.
I guess they got their wish.

I wonder how they're doing with exotic mussles, shrimp and carp.

6. The Sea Lamprey was eradicated in Lake Ontario
But only after the loss of many natural species such as Lake Trout.

But the people at Lake Champlain should draw on the expertise of all the Great Lakes scientists.

Before it's too late.
