As fuel prices rise, so does business for alternative energy company (AZ)

Higher fuel costs are driving business to a Gilbert-based alternative energy company.

Diversified Energy Corp. has five active projects now and is pursuing contracts for seven more. Three of them would involve construction of industrial-sized gasifier machines that could be used in business parks or large industrial plants.

A liquid gasifier converts feedstock, items such as old tires or wood chips, into syngas, a combination of hyrdrogen and carbon monoxide that can be converted into heat, electricity or fuels.

Machines will be customized to a client's feedstock, Thompson said.
"We're seeing a lot of interest in industrial scale, industrial sized gasifiers," Thompson said. "The astute industrial guys are looking and asking. The market's going to expand when these projects are successful."
