Vegas water-pumping plan approved

By BRENDAN RILEY, Associated Press Writer
35 minutes ago

CARSON CITY, Nev. - A request to pump billions of gallons of
groundwater to booming Las Vegas from a valley near the Nevada-
Utah line was cut to less than half the amount in a plan approved
Monday by the state's engineer.

The pipes will be shut off if existing wells and other existing water
rights in Spring Valley suffer during Southern Nevada Water
Authority's pumping the next 10 years, state Engineer Tracy
Taylor said.

A recent drought cycle has cut heavily into southern Nevada's
share of Colorado River water, prompting the city to look
elsewhere for water.

Utah officials, ranchers, conservationists and even the Mormon
Church objected to Las Vegas' request to pump water from their
areas.

1. Man, these nuts latch onto an idea and just can't let it go.
Millions of years to charge some of these aquifers, and they want to drain them in decades.

Perhaps Vegas should begin treating their water for re-use and quit with the damn fountains, lakes and water features.

2. Vegas does reuse and control water use.
I moved from Vegas about 6 months ago. It has the worst water you can imagine. You let a cup of water evaporate and it will have chunks of rocks and a hard as rock white coating on the glass. They are in drought mode there. Hotels have their own filtering system. Everyone is strongly encouraged to convert yards to desertscapes so you don't need to water. Vegas is constantly on the edge of a water disaster. It doesn't really make sense to put 3 million people out in the middle of a desert.

3. I wasn't going to go that far without personal knowledge of the situation.
However, if what you say is true, not only doesn't it make any sense, it shouldn't be allowed.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. They're too stupid to be allowed to use then destroy someone else's aquifers.
