We Are Planting Trees... Please Help
Edited on Thu Apr-05-07 09:51 PM by RestoreGore
http://www.tree-nation.com/index.php

Tree-nation is planting a tree in Niger for every one hundred signatures on my petition to Pledge To Be A Climate Messenger that I will be sending to Al Gore the beginning of next week. I am over the halfway mark and am so gratified to see that people have signed it from all over the world from Germany, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Mexico, India, Ireland, the UK, Canada, the U.S., Israel, and even a signature from Iran. People globally are hearing the message and pledging to join together to do all they can to mitigate the climate crisis and protect our Earth.

Therefore, I am posting this one more time to ask that if you wish to sign this to please do so so your name can go to Nashville to show Mr. Gore that you have heard him and you will help him.

Thanks again.

Under Tree Blogs We Have Noticed on the home page, it is the second petition down.

Oh, and just as a sidenote: My son's high school Science teacher signed it too. ;-).

4. Thank you. Thanks for yours as well. And I am so jealous of you...
You actually got to meet this man for longer than five minutes... oh well, perhaps some day I will be able to talk to him longer about this than five minutes on a book signing line ;-). Thank you for signing it to plant trees.

6. Just got my trees today!
I joined the Arbor Day society and got some for free. I also ordered some. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the colder and it looks like it won't be above freezing for atleast a week!!!

They also have options where you can donate to plant trees in certain areas such as the tropical rain forest.

8. Well, that isn't what this is about
Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 05:40 AM by RestoreGore
There is absolutely no political pretense to this effort. This is about people joining together TO BE the change themselves. This is not a draft petition, this is a petition for our planet. And to be honest, any signatures on it that have "draft al gore" or any sort of partisan political message on it will not be sent. That's exactly what is making this crisis divisive.

11. well, you started it.
i was a little tired when i did this, but your message was about sending a petition to al gore. instead of just signing you petition, i bought a tree. i think that anything that might get al's eye is all good. he is the one we need. that is the most important action we can take. even if he won't run. all the visible support that we can give him ads to his power to deliver this message.
so shoot me.

14. This is about mitigating poverty and deforrestation
There are sites you can go to however to sign the petitions of those who don't seem to want to take that initiative on their own and only see it as a partisan politcal issue. This petition is being sent to him to tell him of those who are helping regarding this crisis now... in other words, taking action ourselves now to preserve and protect our Earth as he has been warning we must do... that is the only thing that will ultimately save her.

10. Done
This looks like a wonderful project.

Also:
I typically, "grow my own" trees, and have run out of space at my house and all my friends' homes for planting...So, if anyone is in the Galveston Tx. area, I still have about 500 2yr old palm(Livistona chinensis) seedlings.

13. My walnut seedlings should be sprouting in the next month
I planted about 25 nuts last fall from a grove of trees I also started from seed about 12 yrs ago. The squirrels didn't find them so far, so I'll be planting them around one of our ponds by June.

Surprisingly fast-growing for a valuable hardwood, mine put on 2-3 ft/yr the first 8 years.

17. Climate change
There is very little you can do to mitigate the climate
crisis, because there is no climate crisis. Global warming is
a natural occurrence that happens about every 1,500 years. The
only effect of you planting trees is to give your life a
feeling of self worth. You are suffering from intoxicating
vanity if you think that your tree planting can chang the
earth's climate. I would also work on transferring your son to
another science teacher, ASAP.

21. Ah, one of Rush Limbaugh's talking points
I actually listen to his garbage from time to time at work just for giggles, and his comment on global warming is that people are incredibly vain if they think that humans can have an impact on the climate of an entire planet, since we are so small and the Earth so big.

Of course, he forgets that we have the ability to throw our entire planet into a new Ice Age with a few thousand nuclear warheads by creating a global nuclear winter, and have had that ability for the past 40 years. That's not vanity, it's a fact. If you realize that, then there is no vanity in thinking we could warm the planet's atmosphere as well.
