Tree Nation Joining Me Asking People To Pledge To Be Climate Messengers/Please Help Me Plant Trees!
Edited on Sat Mar-10-07 12:09 PM by RestoreGore
http://tree-nation.com/#

The project manager of this site saw my petition to Mr. Gore on the Internet (the link to it is below in my signature) asking people to pledge to be climate messengers, and their site is now supporting my petition to Mr. Gore to spur people into action regarding the climate crisis.

The site will also plant a tree for every 100 signatures on this petition so I am passing this on and asking you to please help me by signing it and passing it on to get to at least one hundred this week to plant another tree in Niger to help mitigate deforestation:

http://www.tree-nation.com/community/product.php?item_icon=1&item_id=109377

This site is a good site doing a good thing... planting 8 million trees in Africa (in the shape of a heart) to fight deforestation in concert with the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme.) I am so happy to know that this petition will spark real action and hopefully, Mr. Gore will also know that many people stand behind him as well in his quest to see real action on this crisis take place this year when this petition and the one below are combined and sent to him at the end of this month to show him our ongoing effort to be climate messengers.

This makes me very happy because it is so rewarding to see action taking place! I hope you will also pledge to be a climate messenger and help me in this effort.

Thank you!

1. great sites, great ideas - plant trees wherever you live
I've planted over 1000 trees in my lifetime in Sierra Foothills, California in general, Oregon - my home now.

I have a magic garden which seems to sprout tree seedlings of Birch, Oak, Cherry, Douglas fir, etc.
I dig them up when young, donate them to needy neighbors or just offer to plant them myself wherever I can.

I figure it this way - the air I breath, the stuff I use all takes wood products so am trying in a very small way to plant at least 3-5 trees per year to replace, replenish what we use.
Some years, we plant alot more to make up for those who can't do trees.

Thanks for your links!

7. Trees are the lungs of this Earth
It's only common sense that we plant them to revive this world. Thank you for all you do to keep our planet alive.

14. Great idea. Do you have any links on how much CO2 trees take out of the atmosphere?

We should be planting trees not only in distant places but all over the U.S. There is lots of land where this could be done (highway clover-leafs have a large amount of open space that could be planted in trees). Over the whole country this would really add up to a lot of space and trees.

good post.

Trees For Life, based in Wichita KS. The organization helps to plant trees around the world and to empower communities in the process. They try to marshall all the energies of the community thru meetings to find out how the tree planting can be accomplished and carried forward (not just dropped after awhile) and also what other things the community needs (a well, more knowledge about farming techniques, schools, books, etc.). Then, the volunteers there help the community to contact the people that can help them achieve what they want to achieve. It's a lot more than just planting trees or throwing money at problems. They're always looking for people to get involved as well by either coming to serve as full-time or part-time volunteers or by just contributing money or knowledge to the organization.

Trees For Life has gradually broadened its appeal by doing more than just planting trees. They have been responsible for building new stoves in Guatemala I believe, in developing new foods using the leaves of a certain tree, the Moringa tree (called different things in different places) that is found where the world's greatest malnutrition exists. The leaves of the tree contain a lot of vitamins and could help to reduce this malnutrition if it could be used for the purpose. There is a school in India, there are book programs (libraries of various kinds) in Ethiopia and other places, etc. It has been around since about 1984.

Anybody interested might want to explore the web site and maybe ask for some material to be sent about it. It's one of many orgs around the world that is trying to combat global warming and the loss of our forests, etc. as well as raise awareness as to how economic progress can be achieved in meeting the needs of each locale based on its own traditions and people. It uses the government resources in the places it goes, but doesn't rely on the government to solve the problem. It goes directly to the people of the community.

15. The petition has its first tree and is on the way to number two
To see people signing this petition from all over the world including the United States is encouraging and heartwarming. Planting these trees will positively affect the lives of real people in our world at a time when that is needed so much. Thanks to anyone from this site who signed it or forwarded it on. I am hoping through the goal of 1000 signatures that we reach planting all 10 trees at least by Earth Day. It will be so good to send this to Mr. Gore at the end of this month to let him know that people around the world support his effrots regarding addressing this crisis now by taking the initiative to do so.
