LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is seeking proposals for 2,200 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy per year—worth approximately $176 million annually—from “green power” resources such as solar, wind, and geothermal power. A pre-proposal conference for prospective bidders is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. at LADWP’s John Ferraro Building headquarters, A-Level Auditorium, 111 N. Hope St., Los Angeles.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the renewable energy industry to present strong, viable proposals that will foster the development of clean, sustainable energy for the City of Los Angeles for many generations to come,” Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.

Proposals are due April 10 at 2 p.m. The Request for Proposals (RFP) can be downloaded from the LADWP website at www.ladwp.com/purchasing and has been sent directly to more than 300 vendors nationwide.

The RFP is aimed at boosting the City of Los Angeles’ renewable energy sales to 20% of the energy supplied to customers by 2010. The additional 2,200 GWh of renewable energy would increase L.A.’s total renewables to 15% from its current 6%.

2. Funny. I have a client who works for LA DWP and he has been working
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 12:48 PM by kestrel91316
for the past 18 months up in the Owens Valley on a HUGE project to restore the Owens River and Owens Lake.

I guess he has hallucinated his work..........

BTW, why are you mocking LA for finally TRYING to do the right thing????? It is a city-owned and run ulility, not a for-profit corporation. So when you mock LA DWP, you mock WE CITIZENS OF LA who have pushed and pushed and pushed for this.

Thanks. Guess we shouldn't bother to try anymore since you consider it inadequate.

Get off your moral high horse.

3. The leadership of LA and the DWP have only recently and begrudingly
taken minor steps considering the long term damage done. They have fought for years serious redress of what was done. Your client may be working on a "huge" project, but the LADWP continues to take most of the water from the Owens Valley for LA.
As someone who has watched this for several decades, I suggest you read up a bit more on the past actions of your LA and DWP leadership before you take a offense. Most LA area residents don't give a damn about the environment or the damage caused elsewhere to sustain their way of life. Look at the export of sludge to Kern County as another example.

To use an analogy, the *HUGE* restoration is really a pittance, less than 20 acres and mule (if you understand the reference) and is no where near repairing the ecological damage done.

4. What about my way of life (flush toilet, running water) aggrieves
you so??? Don't tar us all with the same brush. If I had my say, LA landscaping would resemble Tucson's.

Why should I and my neighbors be treated so nastily for what was done by corporate greed 100 YEARS AGO????? I didn't ask for the Owens Valley to be devastated. But I do, like I said, like running water in my home. Bad me.

Try attacking someone else for the sins of this city of 10 million.

5. BTW, you profile indicates you want to come back to CA where
your family is. You shold NOT come back. There isn't enough water to spare. You'll just make the problem worse.

I bet your own family wastes PLENTY of water. Bet they have green front lawns. It's ALL THEIR FAULT.
