A Czech man was killed on Friday by a falling tree, bringing the death toll to four from the storms that left one million homes without power and flattened forests in the central European country. Power companies declared an emergency situation across the country with repairs continuing.
Forestry officials said the damage to lush forests, particularly in the south-east of the country on the borders of Austria and Germany, was significant.
"Damage is in the range of millions of cubic metres," said Tomas Vysohlid, spokesman for the national forestry office.
The agency is to arrange overflights of the devasted forests to get a better grasp of the damage and has warned the public against venturing into them because of the risk of falling trees and branches.
