What oil company execs are saying
July 29, 2006, 7:17PM
Q&A: John Hofmeister, president, Shell Oil Co.

... Q: President Bush has said the U.S. needs to wean itself from Mideast oil. What do you think of this assertion?

A: The U.S. is not self-sufficient in energy. It imports more than 60 percent of its energy from other countries, including the Middle East, Canada, Mexico and Venezuela. And our dependence on imported energy will continue for the foreseeable future, making diversity of supply as important as abundance of supply ...

Q: Does global warming exist? If so, does human use of fossil fuels perpetuate the problem?

A: The debate is over about climate change. Shell shares the widespread concern that the emission of greenhouse gases from human activities is leading to changes in the global climate. Oil and gas will continue to provide an important share of the world's energy needs in this century, but we clearly recognize the challenge of meeting future energy demand while simultaneously addressing the issue of climate change ...

Q&A: Robert Malone, chairman, BP America

... Q: President Bush has said the U.S. needs to wean itself from Mideast oil. What do you think of this assertion?

A: The U.S. has been a net importer of oil for more than 40 years. That's not going to change. Even though Middle East oil accounts for a relatively small percentage of total U.S. consumption today, what happens in the Middle East can have a big impact on the price we pay for crude ...

Q: Does global warming exist? If so, does human use of fossil fuels perpetuate the problem?

A: The planet is warming. We support precautionary action to limit greenhouse gas emissions, even though aspects of the science are still the subject of expert debate. In our view, the goal must be to stabilize greenhouse gas levels through sustainable long-term emissions reduction ...

Q&A: James Mulva, chairman and CEO, ConocoPhillips

... Q: President Bush has said the U.S. needs to wean itself from Mideast oil. What do you think of this assertion?

A: Given that the U.S. has only 2.5 percent of the world's oil reserves yet consumes 25 percent of the world's daily oil supply, this nation will continue to be dependent upon oil imports for the foreseeable future. Our energy security would be enhanced by encouraging new and diverse supply sources as well as maintaining the existing ones ...

Q: Does global warming exist? If so, does human use of fossil fuels perpetuate the problem?

A: Scientific evidence shows that human activity, including the burning of fossil fuels, is contributing to increased concentrations of greenhouse gases ...

1. someone should tell Bush his bosses acknowledge reality

3. I think that
Bush wants us dependent on oil because that is where he makes his money. He doesn't want hybrids and electric cars as that would cut down on his profits.
