taken over a local poll, I found it linked to 11 pro snomobilers in Yellowstone websites. The poll sat at 100 for no restrictions then in less than 24 hours, its over 2200! The Gazette cites these in its op ed pages! HELP!
www.billingsgazette.com , poll is on the left of the page! Thanks!

The people bitching don't even live there.

4. Its not the locals National Park.
Its your National Park. Not the out of state snomachiners. The "locals" you mention have a business associated with the stinking up of Yellowstone. Hardly unbiased.

5. fuck the locals
the fumers have several times the land area of Yellowstone to go buzz around the countryside burning up gasoline. It is just outside of Yellowstone on federal land. The snowmobiles have a negative effect on the wildlife. Ban them.

7. Great idea!
Now what can we do in your area to fuck up your business?

"The snowmobiles have a negative effect on the wildlife."
Just curious, what percentage of the park do the snowmobilers have access to?

8. don't worry, the sun will still come up tomorrow morning
...if the snowmobile "industry" takes a hit. Even yet, I doubt if the impact of the snowmobile ban in Yellowtone NP is even going to cost the job of one dishwasher. They can just ride elsewhere (like I already said).

This is just a wedge issue fanned by the horrible people that brought you the "sagebrush rebellion".

11. Obviously, your some kind of flamer,
you live in a state that is infested with the smelly things. You also havent been paying attention. Why were they phased out to begin with? Because they are major polluters, noisy and disrupt the beauty of the Park in winter. I know. I used to ride one.
Over 75 tickets in the last 90 days alone for trespassers accessing off limits wilderness, access they get to by getting in the park. They do not belong in our National Park.
Speaking of not even living there.....

13. Speaking of not even living there.....
"they are major polluters" show me proof

"noisy" I was there in the summer and didn't hear any noise, oh wait that's because noise isn't actually pollution

" and disrupt the beauty of the Park in winter" that's an 'eye of the beholder' thing

19. They are only allowed on the roads - just like the vehicles in Summer
In fact, the new rules only allow the clean and quiet four-stroke machines. They are actually quieter and cleaner than any RV that goes there in the Summer. They are MUCH cleaner than the snow coaches that some people want to replace the snowmobile.

So noise and smoke is not an issue since those old machines are not allowed. There is no good reason to not allow them on the same roads as all the other Summer traffic drives.

Snowmobiles are the only practical means to get to old faithful since the round trip is more than 70 miles. I don't know anyone much less a family that can X/C ski 70 miles in a day.

Let them use the roads and arrest anybody that goes off the road or breaks the laws...just like we do for traffic in the Summer.

3. Clinton had phased out
the use of snomachines, by law and popular opinion, chimpy stepped in and, well you know what he does, now they have unlimited use and quite frankly its not safe to go to the park right now for cross country skiers, animal lovers and just plain old "Yellowstone in the winter" types. The machines stink, are loud and just dont belong in such a serene and natural place, as Yellowstone can be in the winter.
There are so many areas here that are open to the machines, all around the park, I know, I use them. But to take even my quiet 4 stroke into the park is not right. Thats the best I have this early in the morning....

20. The new rules don't allow loud and stinky snowmobiles
So that is a red herring. The new four-strokes are better than most Summer vehicles. Clinton was right to ban the smokers but there were no clean sleds back then. Now there are very clean four-strokes so let them see the park on the roads on a clean machine just like we do in the Summer.

26. Clean Snowmobiles should be allowed in MY park
Good post. New four-stroke sleds should not be restricted in the park. Sleds are already confined to roads, speed limits are strictly enforced. Despite claims by Julie Cart of the LA times, four-stroke sleds are clean and quiet, perfect for people to enjoy YNP in the winter. National Parks are for the benefit of all people.

35. My park and my kids park
I think of myself as a responcible person. And I raise my children to be responcible. I also notice manufuctures of all brands of snowmobiles striving to make cleaner and quieter sleds in a responcible manner. The bottom line is I should be allowed to ride responcibly in MY park, and MY kids should be able to do the same. Emisions and sound decibals continue to decrease on sleds, for the purpose of being less offencive to others, I call that responcible.

6. Done
Selected NO snowmobile access. There are immense ORV areas in the west. Yellowstone is a national park and should merit special protection.

15. A better approach would be to call or write the Editor
and inform him/her that their poll is the target of an organized effort to skew it.. They will often remove them if the results are bogus..

They know how many people "normally" respond, and if all of a sudden, there are huge numbers, they should realize that something's up..

Give them a link and copy the parts that suggest "organization"..

34. The Park is meant to conserve nature. Snowmobiles have no place there
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 04:23 AM by jpgray
There are plenty of other areas to snowmobile in that aren't intended to preserve a natural treasure of the country. If you are going to pollute the air, make terrific amounts of noise, and burn fossil fuels for no good reason, do it somewhere else. Snowshoe, walk or ski through the park--you'll have more fun and you'll eliminate at least one wasteful (and expensive) sedentary activity.

40. what I can't understand
is how you can "enjoy" nature with an internal combustion engine's noise & smoke, even the more benign ones. When I'm in the field I want to walk, to be able to hear birds and the rustlings in the undergrowth. I'm 50 now and when I get too feeble to get into an area I'll just have to lower my sights and not degrade an area for my momentary pleasure.
Though we don't have those noxious beasts in these parts we've got plenty of ATV's & dirtbikes and I hate them all.
