Local electric cars finally at starting line

Highway-legal car with 30-mile range between charges aims for niche; Tallmadge firm plans new model in '07

...excerpt...

Most people drive fewer than 12 miles to work, so the NmG can be useful for commuters, he said. It also can be driven in a high-occupancy-vehicle lane.

Strauss uses his NmG three or four days a week to run errands and go to and from work. ``They are perfect cars if you are commuting and you know you are only going 30 miles. They are good for second, third, fourth cars in the household,'' he said. ``I bet it saves me 50 bucks a week in gas.''

Myers Motors is developing a new model of electric vehicle to be released next spring. Myers wouldn't disclose the details but said he hopes to sell between 400 and 600.

Myers Motors has eight employees. It plans to hire 15 to 20 employees for the project, Myers said.

He said he is also trying to drop the price of his vehicles below $20,000.

1. that's weird. EV 1 and all those from a few years back went over a 100
and the guy who made the batteries said he made one that can go 300 miles and last the life of the car in Who Killed the Electric Car.

3. Ain't that cute!
Is this the actual picture of the car? If so i'm sorry but it want sale IMHO, it's to small it doesn't have enough range, and it cost to much.

Back in the 80's and 90's Detroit released the electric car, and it was a real car. It worked very well and people liked it, why can't we do that again?

I really do appreciate all attempts to bring electric cars to the public, but this isn't what i would call a car.

6. It's a product of a small company in Akron--what do you expect?
One thing that keeps me from commuting on my bicycle is weather protection. A scooter or any cycle has none of that.

13. Underperformance is not on the cover of Playboy or Fortune magazine.

In 1985 Sinclair research sold 17,000 small cars called the C5 for ₤399.At some point you have to decide how small you can go before switching over to two wheels.Americans want their car to do everything and anything that is why you see ads with trucks on the summit of a mountain. One wrong turn and you drive into a crevasse,it is more aspirational than operational which is romantic.

Engineers who test theory in the marketplace will learn the hard way.The romantic belief by engineers that people will recognize their brilliance when all people want is to hear the oven go ding and eat the burrito must be frustrating.John Kerry tried to explain that a picture machine does not take your soul.More believed a great cargo of wealth would be delivered by Bush.
