6. It looks like the contour-complement of South America.
But plate tectonics isn't real either.

Here is the global map. As I understand it, what matters about west Africa is how many tropical disturbances it spawns, and at what lattitude. They are expecting the storms to come off at a lower lattitude this year (on average), which is one reason they aren't forecasting an exact duplicate of last year's season. A storm system generally needs to get above 5 degrees N, before coriolis is sufficient to form an organized circulating system.

4. Good time for dissident Cubans to lash inner tubes to a '52 Stepside
...and row it to Nantucket.

Hell, If I lived in Florida I might hi-jack the pirate water ride from Disney World and head for Canada myself.

7. I sometimes wonder if things go really bad that we will see people

floating the other way - toward Cuba

not joking. people who are able are trying to flee Iraq. the bus that was stopped the other day had people on their way fleeing Iraq. they took those people off the bus.

people with money are moving out of the US.

those without money will be sneaking across borders and floating away from the US if/when things go bad.

10. I doubt it
As bad as it gets, private property and free markets are better at creating and distributing wealth than a non-democratic authoritarian state run economy.

We just need to recognize what shouldn't be allowed to be enclosed for private gain (natural resources, for example not allowing private companies to profit by using OUR atmosphere as a Carbon Sink), as well as ensuring that democracy prevails.
