Alaska congressman (Don Young, R.) questions global warming
http://www.adn.com/news/environment/warming/story/7744525p-7656597c.html

WASHINGTON -- Climatologists around the world may agree that burning fossil fuels is a significant contributor to global warming, but Rep. Don Young isn’t buying it.

“I am a little bit concerned when everything that is wrong is our fault, that the human factor creates all the damages on this globe,” Young said during a debate on the House floor Thursday. “That is pure nonsense.”

Rep. Obey, D-Wisconsin, suggested Young sounded like one of the “charter members of the Flat Earth Society.”

Young was working to kill a statement in an appropriations bill saying Congress agrees that people are contributing to global warming and that carbon emissions should be limited. Young said we need “a good study” and a debate among scientists.

1. What an ass.
I was in Alaska last summer and people were complaining about the "warm and weird" weather. I really have no use for people like him.

2. Yeah, those forests cut themselves down!
Edited on Sat May-20-06 02:06 PM by kenny blankenship
those rivers silted themselves in, dumped nitrogen rich agrichemicals in themselves, doused themselves in gas and lit themselves on fire.
Stop trying blame us for all the coal that burns itself around the world causing acid rain. We didn't put the coal there. After all, according to your own liberal "old Earth" theories the dinosaurs were the ones who put it there.

Bleaching coral is just Nature's Way of spiffing itself up to look more professional. But always resentful of someone trying to get ahead, you Democrats talk about bleaching coral reefs like it's a bad thing. You liberals say that we're depleting the fish stocks of the oceans, well didn't you ever hear of a little saying that goes "the little fish are eaten by the big fish and the big fish are eaten by the bigger fish"? Instead of knee-jerking and blaming the empty oceans on human beings' "overharvesting", maybe you should be looking for one or two really huge fish lurking around the bottom of the sea. But no, rather than look for the real cause, you'd much rather just blame America--wouldn't you? It's so much easier and satisfying to blame America than looking for mountain sized fish hiding down in the bottom of the sea.
Go ahead, prove to me first there isn't a posse of desperado mountain fish at the bottom of the sea. Prove to me FIRST that these reclusive giants aren't responsible for the decline of world fish stocks (which would be a natural process) and maybe then I'll be open to discussion about human "overharvesting" of the sea.

That ozone layer you're always bitching about--who's to say the ozone isn't voting with its feet and just leaving for outerspace? Maybe it's fed up with high taxes and bureaucratic regulation of free enterprise--who could blame it! By your own reckoning it's over halfway to space already by the time it forms a layer--yet you claim it's our "problem" and our fault. SO there're some holes in it now. Whoopee, prove to me it didn't leave of its own accord! (And ain't it just like a liberal to deny the ozone layer its freedom of choice) Are you ready to pay more taxes to compensate the makers of sunscreen for their lost sales when (if) you manage to close that ozone layer back up? That would be a gov't taking of private property, which according to the Constitution must be compensated. Of course being liberals you'd want to make the sunscreen makers pay extra in taxes to fund their own compensation.

3. even Arnold is past that, says Global Warming is fact
Maybe Mr. Young needs a fact finding tour to California to visit Arnold, California's republican
gov.

4. To Young the only "good study" is one the denies global warming,
ergo no study to date is a good one because they all show global warming is real and man-made. He must not get back to Alaska much since it is there more than anywhere else in the US that you can see the effect before your eyes.

7. Hard to feel sorry for Alaskans
When they repeatedly send ignorant and dishonest men like that to Congress.

Of course, when climate related disasters happen, they'll be still there looking for handouts like the "rugged individualists" they are. Sort of like Mississippi. Makes me sick to even think about it.

8. Smack down by Obey...flat earth society
That's a good one! If it helps his polluting big buddies the mega-corporations, I am sure the idiot from Alaska would say that the earth really is flat, the moon is made green cheese, and that Jesus' face in a bowl of spaghetti is a miracle. Tools. Most in Washington are just shameless whoring tools.
