If the governor has his way, state government will run entirely on earth-friendly electricity by 2010.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski told the state Sustainability Board on Friday that within four years, he wants renewable electricity to account for 100 percent of the state government's electrical needs.

Renewable electricity comes from sources that repeatedly can make - or "renew" - the supply, as opposed to sources that make electricity by relying on finite fuels such as coal or natural gas.

Renewable sources include wind and solar generators, geothermal sources and biomass - agricultural and forest products "leftovers" that can be converted to energy or fuel. The governor wants the state's electricity supplied by sources that started generating renewable electricity after 1999.

1. I love my state!
on top of this, our former Governor has recently formed a coalition to bring health-care to everyone in the state. He says if Feds won't do it, we just have to show them how's it's done. :)

3. That's cool! I love Oregon too. Of course, it's my home state.
I went to school there. My career has led me elsewhere, but I return as often as I can.

2. It's my recollection that PGE offers its customers the choice of renewable
power (I don't know how much more you have to pay for this). It's wind, geothermal and some hydro. I was at the beer festival in downtown Portland last July with my dad, and we happened across a booth with PGE people promoting this program. I wish my utility (Cinergy PSI, southern Indiana region) did this.

4. Costs about 8-10% more...
Which is why I couldn't convince my pennypinching, repub voting boss to sign up for it. :(
