Mercury Advisory For King Mackerel, Cobia, Amberjack From Gulf Coast
Women of childbearing age and children under the age of 7 should not eat any king mackerel caught in the Gulf of Mexico, according to a new mercury advisory from the state.

Sampled mercury levels in fish led state agencies to announce Wednesday that people should limit consumption of fish taken out of certain Louisiana water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

State officials also recommended that young women and children not eat more than one half-pound meal per month of Gulf-caught cobia, blackfin tuna or greater amberjack. In addition to the extensions of the Gulf advisory and an advisory for Bayou Dorcheat in Webster Parish, state agencies added four new water bodies to the advisory list.

The announcement from the state Department of Health and Hospitals, Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Wildlife and Fisheries brings the list of fish advisory water bodies for the state to 41. New advisories have been issued for Black Bayou Lake in Caddo Parish, Lake Bistineau in northwest Louisiana, Iatt Lake in Grant Parish and Bayou Chene/Bayou Lacassine in Southwest Louisiana.
