Arizona study finds elevated amount/heavy metals in Fallon, NV (Tungsten)
RENO, Nev. (AP) - Scientists at the University of Arizona say the air around Fallon has significantly higher levels of tungsten and cobalt than the air around neighboring cities and towns like Reno, Fernley and Lovelock.

"The finding that Fallon's air differs from nearby towns might have medical implications. Since 1997, 16 cases of childhood leukemia have been diagnosed in children who lived in the Fallon area for some time prior to diagnosis," the researchers said.

While tungsten occurs naturally in Nevada, the study suggests the source is not a natural one outside of Fallon, because all the towns would likely have been similarly affected by a natural source.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported on Friday that Kennametal, Inc., operates a tungsten smelter 10 miles north of Fallon and a tungsten-carbide manufacturing plant in Fallon.

2. It's scary. This is the case that brought a Senate committee to town
with Hillary included for an investigation. But at that time, the primary focus for the leukemia was a fuel line.

5. OK, let's ban light bulbs.
Actually I'm just applying the "anything that is remotely dangerous to people under some circumstances" must be banned logic here. It is especially important to ban things that effect Nevada. After all, there are no lights in Nevada, are there?

But by all means, before we ban light bulbs, let's ban electricity, even the "safe" form, coal.
