ZIPCARS catching on.
http://www.zipcar.com/

How it works:

Apply online today. It only takes a few minutes.
Once you're approved, you get your very own Zipcard. Are you eligible?

Reserve one of our hundreds of cars – for a couple hours or the entire day. Do it online or use a phone. We're easy.

Walk to the car, then just hold your Zipcard to the windshield.
The doors will unlock, and it's all yours!

Drive away... and return to the same reserved parking spot at the end of your reservation. It's that simple. And remember, gas, insurance and XM Satellite Radio are included too.

1. awesome!
I'm glad of ANY news that breaks up our current transportation/oil dependancy models. Using big information systems to manage car sharing in an efficient way could make a big dent on our oil dependency.
