America's national parks are on the auction block. Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA), chairman of the key natural resources committee in the U.S. House of Representative, has drafted dangerous legislation that outlines a plan to close 15 national parks, sell them off to the highest bidder, and turn remaining national parks into commercial billboards. This proposal would sell for profit to oil and gas industries and private developers national park sites that represent American Indian culture, magnificent Alaska wilderness, priceless archaeological sites, and even a memorial to Theodore Roosevelt, our greatest conservation president. It also demands that park vehicles, trails, and buildings be turned into advertising billboards. ..cont'd
