Wind power shut down in CA to save the birds?
Is it true the Altamont pass windmills are offline due to environmental concerns for birds getting killed?

1. They have to shut them down
when the huge flocks of birds make their twice a year migratory flights through that corridor. They have been using that pathway for thousands of years, the windmills are not something they're used to, so to shut them down seasonally is the right thing to do.

2. it's the wires on cellular towers that kill an incredible amount of birds
3 to 5 million per year says one estimate

30,000 died in one night during bad weather when they crashed into a tv tower, too

3. Sure, yeah.
I used to work at a tv transmitter that had a tower 1101 feet high. I do not remember seeing any dead birds around it.

5. It does happen...
don't forget if the wind is blowing they won't always be right under the tower and its wires.
