Hybrid and Electric vehicles

With the Ford Focus EV coming it appears that the looks are getting better.

Why have so many designs been so damn ugly?

The Leaf is not an attractive vehicle either in my view.

1. hybrids with 50+ mpg have to be small aerodynamic and light
EVs are not constrained as much - so they can use more standard designs.

5. I'd like you to note that the ford Escape hybrid looks just like the standard Escape
Only thing that gives the hybrid away is the hybrid tag on the right rear
Ford knows how to design em, build 'em and stand behind 'em and this has been the case for years.

6. 34 city/31 hwy/32 combined
Lots of manufacturers slam a hybrid engine into a standard body and get nominal improvement in mileage. If you want to get 50+ you have to change the design parameters.

7. They all have to be small, aerodynamic and light.
The era of using large amounts of steel to make a car are over.

2. No Plug... No Sale
I want an electric car so I can tell the oil companies to S.U.C.K. IT.

PS, I don't mind how the Leaf looks. The Mitsubishi iMiev (or whatever they're calling it now) would be a bit of a harder sell for me.

4. I thought the Leaf was ugly but my opinion has changed.
I was on the list to get one last spring but canceled because of the car's styling and anemic charger. Now that I've seen a few on the road, I must say, they look decent. I somewhat regret not getting it when I had the chance (the slow charging still bugs me, though...)

Will definitely buy something next year. Maybe the Ford Focus, also trying to get on the list for the BMW Active E.
