Someone had a post yesterday that (paraphrased) "Democrats need to be the 'party of taxes' because taxes are needed for Democrat issues". My reply is that Democrats need to be the "tax and spend wisely". With about 1/2 the country considering the Democrats the "tax and spend" party and wasting money, the Democrats need to prioritize issues and spend on the most important. They need to at least look like they are being wise in their spending. You can't get the other 1/2 to thing than any social issues is wise to spend money on.
But you can make progress by saying these 10 things are very important to us. We realize that we need to be smart about spending so we're going to stop pushing these two or three for now. But these other two or three we won't budge on. And the ones in between we're willing to work on.
"green" may be one of the top priorities. Or it may not. I know bipartisanship is frowned on around here, but the fact is that a few issues may be saved and enhanced, or all issues will be cut. It's just not reasonable that DINOs, and the tea party are going to let all issues/programs continue. It would be better for Democrats to lead in cuts and give the perception that they are wise spenders. Much of it will be perception rather than significant budget changes - Democrats fight very strongly for things that have little budget impact but alienate a lot of people. They're good things. They should be fought for. But they could have huge affects on more important things (SS, medicare, etc).
