Japan suspends talks with buyers of nuclear plants
Nuke export talks suspended
Kyodo

The government will suspend talks with Brazil and four other countries concerning the sale of Japanese-made nuclear power equipment and technology after Prime Minister Naoto Kan this week called for Japan's eventual exit from atomic power.

The decision concerns negotiations over completing separate nuclear power cooperation agreements with Brazil, India, South Africa, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. Negotiations with all five countries have stalled since the earthquake and tsunami in March triggered the nuclear crisis in Fukushima Prefecture.

The decision to suspend talks with the five countries with plans to build nuclear plants in the immediate future could cause Japanese companies to lag further behind rivals in South Korea and Russia in the global competition to clinch atomic plant contracts with emerging economies.

Japan needs to sign bilateral nuclear cooperation agreements with other countries and have them endorsed by the Diet in order to export nuclear power technology and equipment.

Any move to...

2. It is hard to figure what this means.
The pronuclear forces in the government are strong and while Kan is aligned with popular opinion, he is swimming against the tide in established government and business relationships.

This could be a move to put pressure on him with the claim that his actions are thoughtless and will harm the economic status of the nation.

3. I'm sure the pro-nuclear forces are in the pockets of the industry
Beings as how they operate evidenced by your other post where it was shown that half of pronuclear responses at a Japanese e-townhall were from industry employees. Nothing about the nuclear power industry can be taken at face value, irregardless of the country where they are located. On that alone they should be shut down. I know I don't do any business with anyone who I can't trust, providing I have a choice. I'm pretty sure none of the watts coming out of my outlets originated at a nuclear power plant as the closest one is in Arkansas and we ship Arkansas a shitpot full of coalewatts so I don't think any nukiewatts is coming my way. :hi:
