Inhofe, Upton launch "all out push" to block federal and state climate rules

"Top staff members for key House and Senate Republicans met in a closed-door session Tuesday with energy industry interests to work on strategy to handcuff the Obama administration’s climate change agenda.

With the backing of GOP caucus leaders, aides for House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee ranking member Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) are seeking unwavering support from a host of industries for an all-out push to block federal and state climate rules.

<>

The roster of those attending the invitation-only gathering is being kept under lock and key, though it is believed to include the American Petroleum Institute, National Mining Association, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and others."

1. "...confident they can get broad Democratic support.."
"Most Senate Republicans think the sweeping repeal of EPA authority is the best approach, a Senate aide said, and they’re confident they can get broad Democratic support..."

A few paragraphs down.

But -- never! Why, the Senate Dems and President would never go along with--

Oh. Never mind.

2. Isn't there anything in the RICO anti-racketeering laws
that can be invoked against this sort of fraud?

3. I assume Dick Cheney was sitting at the Head Table
as Secret Energy Meeting Consultant, and I assume this means we'll be invading more small countries soon?

Especially those countries who are excellent at generating renewable energy -- dangerous examples of freeing infrastructures from coal/oil addiction.

4. I noticed that many of the cuts they plan also effect the fight against
climate issues. This is going to make it hard to deal with. However, states have been at the forefront of the battle. In the next two years things are going to have to be done from the bottom up.

6. Upton's home state manufactures the Chevy Volt
the sales of which would benefit from higher gas prices. So pro-business in Michigan, in part, also means pro-environment.

Also, Upton was also one of the few contenders for chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee who isn't a denier. Could have been Denier/API tool Joe Barton (R-TX).

7. Upton better not stand too close to Inhof
because one of these days that asshole is going to be hit by lightning or raptured by a tornado.
