Two years after bombarding the airwaves, tycoon focuses on natural gas

Since the billionaire’s plans for the world’s largest wind farm fell apart in the Texas Panhandle, Pickens has edited his much-hyped “Pickens Plan” to focus primarily on his other big business interest: natural gas.

Touting 1.7 million Pickens Plan supporters, he’s now pushing Congress to pass legislation that would offer incentives to convert 18-wheelers and fleet vehicles to run on compressed natural gas, or CNG, rather than diesel. He said if just 8 million of those trucks switch to the domestic-produced fuel, it could cut in half the amount of foreign oil imported by the United States.

The businessman said he is now looking to Canada as a place to build his 500-megawatt wind farm, because he couldn’t get a deal done in Texas.

1. I believe he wanted permits for state and federal lands, eminent domain, and couldn't get it.

So, perhaps since he couldn't get access to enough "free" land and probably couldn't get the state and federal gov't to subsidize (pay for) his windmills, he decided there's no money in it.

3. The whole "wind farm" bs was centered around his land grab for water rights.

he cloaked it all in a smoke screen of being "green".

people here saw right through his BS and sent him packing.

he's now off to lands of the north to screw them out of their water.

This is why I believe he's going to slime his way in to the tar sands.

in order to extract tar sands, you needs lots and lots of water.

shell has already virtually destroyed the ecosystem up in that area with their refining.

4. His biggest stumbling block was he couldn't get the government to pick up the tab for the

transmission lines to get his power to the grid which comes with no small price especially when you have to travel many many miles. Best I remember anyway. :hi:

5. Right on! Just as post #2 stated: just another Republican wanting government handouts!

They want to shrink the size of government so they can get more handouts and the people can suffer, or die, they don't give a sh*t, as long as there's a pile of money in it for them.
