Activists target LSU prof's global warming lecture
BATON ROUGE, La. -- A Louisiana professor says he is being wrongly targeted by conservative bloggers who released video excerpts of a lecture on climate change.

A conservative student group called CampusReform.org has circulated video online of the professor telling students who don't believe in taking steps to end global warming that "blood will be your hands." The video shows less than two minutes of a nearly hour-long lecture at Louisiana State University.

Astronomy professor Bradley Schaefer said Wednesday he was provoking discussion about climate change and gave equal criticism to students with other points of view. Schaefer says he wasn't marginalizing global warming skeptics.

2. Those who cannot be bothered to LEARN the fundamental concepts
of an issue have no business or right to even have an opinion on it.

I have no respect for the opinionated ignorant.

9. Please, do share your qualifications with us
so we can understand your cocksuredness in labeling an MIT Phd in astronomy/astrophysics a "mindless doomer".

13. Actually I was responding
to reply #1 by xchrom, and not the subject of the OP. If you weren't so tanked up on doomer kool-aid you might have noticed. Maybe when you come down off your high, maybe you'll ask xchrom to share her qualifications and want to understand her "cocksuredness" in labeling anyone who believes differently "not deserving of respect".

Can you spell h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e?

10. What about mindful ones?
Or is simply voicing pessimistic conclusions verboten?

11. The Titanic Syndrome
which might be summarized thusly:

"One would have to be a blithering idiot to think a ship this big, with the best technology mankind has to offer, could ever *blub* *gurgle* *blub* *blub*..."

14. You are giving them far to much credit since "skeptic" implies rationality.
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 04:16 PM by kristopher
They are not engaged in rational skepticism, they are taking a contrary position based on ideology. Call them what they are, 'climate contrarians'.

It really does matter; that's why they coined to term skeptic - to get away from the flat Earther image they were acquiring.

3. Not sure why he'd give equal
criticism to other, correct views.??

4. It might just be worded badly, but it's also not uncommon for students to
reach generally correct conclusions through faulty reasoning or misunderstanding of the evidence. I teach climate-related courses, and I frequently have students who know that the planetary temperature is warming, but have a very flawed understanding of how or why that's happening. I certainly correct them as thoroughly as the students who arrive at incorrect conclusions...

6. Of course.
That's understood (I assumed). Using it as an apology/defense is what I was questioning.
