2. Quite a bit lower than 2007 at this point.

I don't know how to post images here so I'll just put this link in. The daily graph of sea ice extent at top right has a dotted line showing 2007 and a solid blue showing this year.

http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/

This is just level extent, not total area covered but the amount of open water already this year is remarkable. On the Cryosphere today website, click the 30 day animation under North America to see how fast the ice is disappearing.

http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/

Interesting thing is the Antarctic Ice is about 1.4 million km more than average.

6. Have you noticed they changed the mean from 1979-2000 to 1979-2008?
Everything being relative, the trend of the graph remains the same, as do all relations of datapoints to other datapoints along the curve.

But, if this was the same graph we were looking at in 2005,6,7, and 8,
the real deviation would be about 2.4M, not -1.9M.

12. Um...wasn't it supposed to be up against Greenland and the northern Canadian islands
that all the old, multi-year ice was?

And I really mean, was?

I think this is gonna be "the year".

15. Kick.
This uptick in ice area is only temporary and doesn't mean fuckall given the sharp drop in ice volume.
