Obama's Tepid Response to the BP-created Oil Volcano
The first and foremost lie by BP coddled, encouraged and used by the Obama administration is the phrase, OIL SPILL.

The Gulf Coast catastrophe is NOT AN OIL SPILL. Stop using the phrase. The phrase might roll off the tongue better but it is not a spill. Let's say Old Faithful is hot water spill.

The Gulf Coast disaster is an unmitigated man made deep water volcanic vent of crude oil and gas.

A spill is what you call your kid's accidental tipping of a glass of milk. Maybe it's you accidentally dropping the synthetic oil can as you're changing your car's oil. Those are oil spills. Oil spill is a public relations term that now has successfully permeated the public's collective psyche.

The Gulf Coast disaster is a dangerous uncontrolled vent from an underwater volcano of crude oil and gas. It's time to call it what it is.

14. It is NOT a volcano
It sucks but it is not a volcano. If the estimates are correct it's about 210,000 gallons a day the equivalent of about 10 times the volume of an average in ground swimming pool in someones back yard.

It terms of weight that works out to about 170,100 pounds per day. No one knows how much earth and ash was released by Mount Saint Helens but about 1.8 billion (1,800,000,000) pounds were removed from roads and airport runways alone. At the current rate it will take about 10,582 days (29 years) to release the same weight of material and I can't imagine that was even 1% of the material released.

BP screwed up big time and deserves to pay but we don't need hyperbole.

2. Yes, IMPEACH Obama
Obama probably planned this spill and is home laughing at all the dead stuff washing up on shore.

Maybe the idiot drunk we had in office the last 8 years could have done better.

5. um, the article is about lack of RESPONSE--but do carry on, it's quite amusuing
to watch the ardent defenders of the indefensible try to change the subject--with nothing at all, simply nonsense words. So you got nothing, it's obvious--and of course you can't address any of the points in the article because you didn't read it either.

10. did that article specify what response should be taken? No. It just complains.
The fact is, the only people with the equipment to respond to this are responding to it.

You just want to bitch about Obama.
It's you're entire purpose on this messageboard, after all.

Some of the criticism's were quite rationally and on point- which like or no, will come out down the line.

6. You know why I am frustrated with Obama
I would just love to see him get in a kick ass mode and go after BP, the republicans, the tea bags and get in a take charge and give no quarter situation. He seems to be sauntering on down the pike and letting stuff slip by. He needs to put his actions where his mouth is in all the speeches he is so fond of giving.

If he would give the republicans what for one time. I think if he started to strike back he would start to be the president we want him to be. The one who is IN CHARGE AND ACTS LIKE IT. We know he can do it, it is just getting him TO do it. Come on Obama show those damn republicans they aren't in charge that YOU AND THE DEMOCRATS ARE.

7. Fear and self interest. Seems to be that even "the good guys" are petrified of corporate powers
and compromised by self interest.

8. "These are US waters, US land and US wildlife". Is it really? That seems to be the larger question
BP is being allowed to act as extractor and steward. They are being treated like a landowner. If I have a piece of land and I cause pollution on it I will get a fine and have to clean it up. If I do that to someone else's land I will go to jail.

Which is what is happening to BP?

Huh? Do we have corporate Facism or not? Think about it!

13. Decision needed ... use brain or not?
> decision needed ...use nuke, or not

What is it with you guys over there?

How the living fuck do you think that exploding a nuclear warhead
a mile under the sea, next to a currently restricted geyser of
oil & gas, is a good idea?

You seem to think that it would go "Bang" to magically cork up
the pipe and do nothing else - waving a magic wand indeed.

You are oblivious of the effect that creating a large crater instead
of a constricted pipe would have on the flow rate.

You are blithely ignoring the incredibly large amount of radiation
deliberately released into the waters of the Gulf, adding a further
longer-term pollution aspect to the already polluted food chain.
(This point being almost hysterically funny when you consider the
enormous farce about a few drops of tritium approaching the groundwater
elsewhere in your country.)

You appear to be totally ignorant of the effect of the shock-wave
on the unconsolidated canyon walls ... does the word "tsunami" mean
anything to you?

:wtf:
:argh:
