We have tried to Google but cannot find the answers. Are there any
government grants for building individual wind energy on your own property? We live in MN. Want to get started.

2. There are plans available online...
you can find plans at places like otherpower.com. You can find videos at youtube or instructables. To get started really would not take that much money.

You might check into tax credits available if you buy windpower.

4. Try using Google to find those who would know.
Manufacturers, hobyists, etc. and ask them.

You might also want to look into Stirling engines, which if driven by an externals source (say a windmill) can be used as heat pumps.

5. Check your zoning. I'd love to invest in wind power but my
town and my neighbors would object. Houses here are very close together and I understand the turbines make a whirring sound.

7.  Federal Grants for up to 25% of cost
or tax credit for up to 30% of costs.
If it is for a commercial property you can also qualify for 18 cents per KwH,iirc, for net metered power sold to the utility companies.
Most states also have tax credits or grants available. Some local goverments and power utilities also offer incentives.Check with your local renewable contractors. They will know what the state and local incentives are. Also, many renewable energy websites will have state by state listings.

But I thought small-scale wind was ineffective. Or did I miss something?
