A couple of years ago, I did a job for a man who had chickens which I did not recognize. I asked him what breed they were and he told me they were "Golden Comets". My wife and I decided to get replacement chickens early last year and I said I'd like to try the Golden Comets and she agreed. We got 15 female chicks and they've done quite well. During the summer and until winter set in, we let them free range. They are less aggressive with each other compared to Leghorns and seem to tolerate the cold here in Upper Michigan quite well. The chicken coop is unheated but is insulated and I have the outer walls banked with snow. The 15 hens produce about 10 large brown eggs a day which is more then enough for my family with the excess given to nearby friends and relatives.
I'd recommend this breed for those who have their own chickens for eggs or are interested in doing such. I do not think this breed would be a good choice for those who raise chickens mainly for meat.
