Another Wave Energy Project off the Coast of Scotland

Wave energy seems to be Scotland’s lottery number. Scotland-based energy developer Pelamis just signed a joint venture agreement with the European energy giant Vattenfall for a large, almost $100 million energy project off Scotland’s Shetland Islands.

Wave energy seems to be Scotland’s lottery number. Scotland-based energy developer http://www.pelamiswave.com/">Pelamis just signed a joint venture agreement with the European energy giant http://www.vattenfall.co.uk/en/index.htm">Vattenfall for a large, almost $100 million energy project off Scotland’s Shetland Islands. This follows the http://cleantechnica.com/2009/11/30/largest-working-hydro-electric-wave-energy-device-in-the-world-launched/#more-4074">recent launch of Oyster, reportedly the largest working hydro-electric wave energy device in the world, by the Scottish government and partners.

This new project by Pelamis and Vattenfall is being named Aegir, named after a Norse mythological sea god. It is Scotland’s largest wave power scheme.

http://www.businessgreen.com/business-green/news/2255323/pelamis-prepares-push-boat">Aegir is expected to “feature 26 of Pelamis’ P2 180m long-wave power machines, which are in total capable of generating up to 200MW of power, which is enough to provide power for about 13,000 households per year.”

The first phase of the project is planned to go live in 2014.
