1. I know that here in northeast ok
we have trees that have been surviving my whole life that are not supposedly in the right hardiness zone so I wonder if some of this change is due to better data to base the zones on now due to what we've learned these last 60 70 years. Global warming too mind you but

2. The Arbor Day folk are pretty straightforward about the reason
Much of the U. S. has been warmer in recent years, and that affects which trees are right for planting. The Arbor Day Foundation has recently completed an extensive updating of U.S. Hardiness Zones based upon data from 5,000 National Climatic Data Center cooperative stations across the continental United States.

6. I have noticed a Ginko tree planted here in Fargo.
They used to be only marginally hardy here before. We used to be borderline 3b/4a, Now we are 4b. My mom is an avid gardener and she has remarked on how the growing season has become noticeably longer since the 70s and there is lest damage to perennials and trees in the winter from cold weather.

I see Zone 5a has crept into southern Minnesota.
